I followed that guiding star throughout my academic path, and graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Lisbon in 2002. Yet, in my early adulthood, the will to make art started to fade, as life led me to create in other ways. Only in recent years has that drive gradually returned. Humans really are intricate beings, moved by mysterious forces.

My art has always revolved around roots. I grew up in contact with nature, farm animals, and crops. Those experiences etched in me memories of the smell of soil, the feeling of grapes crushed under my feet, the scratches corn leaves make on bare skin. The respect for my origins, for Earth, and for nature guides my eyes and, of course, my pencils and paintbrushes.
I am always on a quest, albeit a serene one, for beauty in our world.

My work, be it portraiture or botanical subjects, feeds on the deep moist grounds of poetry, and words can feel like clay to me. I’ll leave you with just a few of my favorite pairs: tenderness and integrity; music and silence; water and trees.
